The Third Beaune to Bamako Cinematographic Mettings has been carried out on february the 24th and 25th 2005


The meeting's aim is to think collectively about how an economically autonomous West African motion picture industry could be developed.

The third Bamako Cinematographic Meetinig focused on a major challenge : To set strong efficient distribution structures in order to generate incomes with african movies in Africa.

 

This event were patronised by the president of the UEMOA Commission, Mr Soumaila Cisse. Meeting's presidency was hold by the famous french filmmaker Mr Jean Jacques Annaud.

Three main thematics were discussed:

International institution's role and financial support to the west african motion picture industry:

- Subsidy situation and level and its impact on production and distribution in Western Africa
- Dtaft International Convention on Cultural Diversity

Film production and distribution in an autonomous way:


- Discussion about the english-speaking countries experience (especually Nigerian and Ghanean case)

Film distribution and exploitation problems in Western Africa:


- Digital Video as a way to fight against traditional distribution channel decreasing

Ont pris part à ces rencontres les présidents des bureaux nationaux de l'UCECAO, de représentants de l'ARP, des opérateurs économiques de l'audiovisuel Ouest Africain, des représentants de plusieurs gouvernements...

During the meeting, three Jean Jacques Annaud's movies were broadcasted (2 brothers, The name of the rose, l'amant) in the Bamako's Palais des Congres, in order to help Bamakokao to enjoy Jean Jacques Annaud's visit.

Following this meeting, Jean Jacques Annaud went to the Dogon Country, his journey was the topics of a short documentary directed by Thomas Robin.

These sometimes highly passionate debate have led to the UCECAO road map, an action program to support african cinema in the coming years.
